Participate in a variety of outdoor activities, such as beachcombing, surfing, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, a meandering kayak voyage along the bluffs of Myrtle Creek, and hammock camping in the lush forest. Little Talbot Island is a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
Little Talbot Island is one of the few pristine barrier islands in Northeast Florida, boasting more than five miles of pristine white sand. On the western side of the island, you’ll find maritime woods, dunes reminiscent of the desert, and pristine salt marshes, perfect for spending a day learning about and enjoying nature. The park is home to a wide variety of animals thanks to its many environments. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy seeing river otters, marsh bunnies, bobcats, and many other kinds of native and migratory birds.
Surf and tidal streams provide good fishing for anglers. You can usually count on reeling in a bluefish, striped bass, redfish, flounder, mullet, or sheepshead. Hiking, swimming, canoeing, and surfing are also quite common. In addition to a full-service campground, the park also has a tent area for younger visitors and organized groups. Visitors can make use of picnic pavilions located near the beach.
Little Talbot offers a wide variety of ecosystems thanks to its status as one of the last undisturbed barrier islands. In such a wide variety of environments, it’s no surprise that the park is home to so many different species of animals. There are snakes and gopher tortoises all across the park. Shorebirds can be seen up close and personal along the shore, and wading birds will find refuge on the island’s reverse side. Taking the Little Talbot Hiking Trail will take you through a variety of ecosystems, some of which you may not have expected to find.
Approximately a quarter of a mile from the coast, Little Talbot Island’s Myrtle Creek offers a fantastic camping spot for visitors. The 40 campsites at our campground are all equipped with flush toilets, hot showers, power, water, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Huge moss-covered Live Oak trees provide pleasant shade for the majority of the sites. Guests can take advantage of two modern shower buildings, a dump station, a boat ramp for launching smaller watercraft, a hiking track, and a pleasant playground. The Ranger station has bicycles available for rent.
There are 4.5 miles of pristine beaches on Little Talbot Island. The beach is easily accessible from the 5 different boardwalks and 2 parking lots. If you’re planning on spending some time at the beach, you’ll be happy to know that we also offer three changing rooms and outdoor showers. Only in the areas reachable from the parking lot at the north end of the beach are bathing suits permitted.
