Northside

Northside is a great option for those who value open space and proximity to the outdoors. The scenery and atmosphere in Northside are truly breathtaking.

There are many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in the Northside area. Northside, which is more rural than the surrounding areas, was once an industrial hub. Currently, it’s making waves in Jacksonville, Florida.

Residential developments and riverfront properties perfect for raising a family have proliferated in Northside’s real estate market in recent years. While many people do have their own homes, nearly as many do not, and instead choose to rent. The average price of a house is around $200,000.

Although Northside is located in a rural area, you shouldn’t assume that you’ll be completely removed from the city’s cultural offerings just because you choose to live there.

Jacksonville’s zoo and Huguenot Park are nearby, as is the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve. You can go bird watching, kayaking, or boating, and you won’t run out of chances to see wildlife.

As a large area of Jacksonville, Florida, the Northside is often viewed as a counterpoint to the city’s other sizable districts, including the Urban Core, Arlington, Southside, Westside, and Beaches. There are many significant elements to Jacksonville’s past and present spread across this large area, including historic neighborhoods, cultural landmarks, protected ecosystems, and essential transportation and logistics facilities.

Jacksonville Consolidation, which combined the governments of the City of Jacksonville and Duval County, led to the Northside’s incorporation into Jacksonville in 1968. Jacksonville International Airport, Jacksonville station, JAXPORT Cruise Terminal, Blount Island Marine Terminal, and Dames Point Marine Terminal are all located here, along with other important transportation and logistics facilities for the city.

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, which had been located in South Jacksonville, moved to the Northside in 1925 and has since expanded to its current size. There is no universally accepted definition of where the Northside begins and ends; however, research has shown that the vernacular region is generally thought of as lying north of the Urban Core and Westside at 20th Street, and west and north of the St. Johns River.

Protected areas in the Northside are managed by a wide range of organizations, from the National Park Service and Florida State Parks to the City of Jacksonville and its Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as by private businesses.

More than 46,000 acres (19,000 ha) of wetlands and waterways make up the Timucuan Preserve, a National Preserve in the United States. Natural and historical landmarks like the oldest plantation in North Carolina, Kingsley, and the Fort Caroline National Memorial can be found there.
